Recreational Therapy


The recreational therapy job description includes assessing, treating and rehabilitating individuals with specific health conditions, usually in conjunction or collaboration with interprofessional teams comprised of physicians, nurses, psychologists, social workers, and physical and occupational therapists, dietitians, etc.

The recreation therapy intern is responsible for assessing clients, establishing mutually agreed upon treatment plans which may include 1:1 interventions, small group or large group interventions and some team duties. Typically, the recreational therapist and intern will provide leisure education counselling, recreational activities and leisure skill development opportunities.

Recreational Therapy internships will vary by description depending on the areas of speciality. Interested students should contact the recreational therapist in the specific area prior to applying.

The internships are available in the following areas:

  • Geriatric Day Hospital/Ambulatory Geriatric Services
  • Progressive Care and Rehabilitation Unit (5 west)
  • Reactivation Care Centre, 2111 Finch Avenue West, 6 West
  • Adult/Geriatric Mental Health (you must be enrolled in a degree program to apply).
